You've reached week 17 of your pregnancy and your baby is growing quickly, now weighing around 150g.

They're around 12cm long, from head to bottom, that's roughly the size of a pomegranate!

At this stage, your little one's development is truly fascinating. Their eyebrows and eyelashes are beginning to take shape and, although their eyes are still shut, they can move them. Their mouth can open and close now, too!

Another remarkable development is the formation of lines on the skin of their fingers, meaning your baby already has their own unique fingerprints! Their tiny fingernails and toenails are growing, and they possess a firm hand grip – a testament to their growing strength.

Now, let's shift our focus to your wellbeing at 17 weeks - you may have upcoming ultrasound scans, including the mid-pregnancy anomaly scan, often referred to as the "20-week scan." This scan provides essential insights into your baby's development.

When you're pregnant, the safest approach to alcohol in pregnancy is not to drink it at all. Your baby can't process alcohol as well as you, and it can seriously affect their development.

Bleeding during pregnancy is relatively common and doesn't always mean there's a problem – but it can be a sign of problems. Learn about the common causes of bleeding, and call your midwife or maternity unit if you're ever concerned.

You may have started to feel your baby move already, especially if this isn't your first pregnancy. Most women usually start to feel their baby move between 16 and 24 weeks of pregnancy.
